Meet the Teacher…

Vallerie is a music therapist and music teacher having graduated with a degree in music therapy. Vallerie teachers beginner to intermediate musicians in foundational skills for violin, piano, guitar, and voice. She has played violin for over 10 years, and works as a professional vocalist. She currently teaches online and offers in-person to those in the Renton area and surrounding south cities.

Vallerie’s teaching philosophy focuses on: development of healthy technique, application of a growth mindset, and prioritization of ideal musicianship. Vallerie emphasizes and ensures students are utilizing proper technique to minimize player fatigue and risk of injury. She provides adequate examples and guides students on how to recognize their own body’s distress signals. Learning and growing in an instrument requires consistency and willingness. Vallerie will map out an effective and manageable practice routine to best suit the students lifestyles and desired music goals. Vallerie believes that everyone has a unique sound and helps the artist cultivate their ideal sound by encouraging curiosity and learning to play music beyond what the sheet music suggests.

She works with students approaching music as fun and transformative. Her ultimate goal is to provide students the tools and foundational skills to feel confident, so that they can continue to teach themselves when ready and enrich their musicality throughout their journey.

What are adapted lessons?

  • Adapted lessons means I take into account learning ability, preferences, physical or mental conditions, and learning style to present materials in a way that you will be able to understand and grow.

  • Anyone can participate in adapted lessons with or without additional physical, mental, or emotional considerations. This is information I collect to provide a worthwhile experience to help promote confidence, trust, and joy during lessons and negate harsh self-criticism and practice panic.

  • Rhythm and Life does not offer training and experience relative to ABRSM or RCM curriculum.
